Officials: Bodies found in Hamtramck house fire
Authorities are investigating a Monday morning fire in a Hamtramck house in which two bodies were found, officials said.
Firefighters from the departments of Hamtramck and Detroit responded at about 7:25 a.m. Monday to the fire near the intersection of Cody and Mitchell in Hamtramck, according to authorities. The intersection is located near Joseph Campau Avenue and the Davison Freeway service drive.
Dave Fornell, deputy commissioner of the Detroit Fire Department, said firefighters searched the home and found the two badly burned bodies on the house's second floor.
"It was a pretty intense fire," he said. "The stairway to the second floor was completely burned away."
Fornell said investigators are waiting for the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office to identify the two victims.
He also said that a firefighter injured his elbow when he fell through a hole in a floor of the home. He was taken to a hospital to be treated, according to Fornell.
