Taylor — Police halted a gun shop robbery in progress early Tuesday, officials said.

Authorities said the suspects may be behind a separate string of break-ins in the community.

Police said officers responded at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday to a silent alarm from the Recoil Firearms gun shop at 22509 Ecorse Road near Pardee.

Officers saw two people inside the business and set up a perimeter around the building.

Officials said the suspects were in the building for about 20 minutes and broke out a window in an attempt to leave.

Officers immediately arrested one of them and the other was caught after a short foot chase.

According to a preliminary investigation, the men gained entry into the building from its roof. They also left several bags of guns at the front of the store.

Officials said Westland police also reported a gun shop robbery and the description of the perpetrators in that theft matches the two men apprehended in Taylor.

Taylor police are working with agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on the investigation into the theft and possible others in the region, they said.
