A major road near Detroit Metro Airport in Romulus is closed as crews tend to repairs after a vehicle crashed into an overpass, officials said.

At about noon Friday, a commercial vehicle traveling east on Eureka Road struck the Dingell Drive overpass, causing significant damage, airport representatives said in a statement.

"According to preliminary information, the boom on the vehicle was not properly stowed at the time of impact," the release read.

Falling concrete injured the driver, the statement said. He was transported to a local hospital.

Another person in a car who was injured was treated at the scene.

Eastbound Eureka between Wayne and Middle Belt is closed, as well as the Dingell Drive ramp to eastbound Eureka, the airport said.

"The roadways may be closed through the holiday weekend," officials wrote.

Westbound Eureka remains open.
