River Rouge — Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that injured a man Thursday near southwest Detroit. 

At 5 p.m., Detroit Police and River Rouge Police Departments requested Michigan State Police to handle an officer-involved shooting investigation, state police said.

State police responded to the scene at the intersection of Palmerston and Palmerston Court.

The shooting occurred in the 500 block of Palmerston Street while Detroit police officers were in the area for another investigation, state police First Lt. Mike Shaw said.

One suspect was taken to Detroit Medical Center with gunshot wounds and his condition was unknown, according to state police.

Two Detroit police officers were involved and were not injured in the shooting, state police said. 

"There are no injuries to members of the community and there is no danger to the public as all suspects are accounted for," state police tweeted.

Detroit police referred questions to state police.
