Taylor — Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a car and a pedestrian that happened early Wednesday, officials said.

Taylor Police Chief John Blair said the crash happened about 4 a.m. on Telegraph Road at Pennsylvania Road between Eureka and Sibley roads.

He said a preliminary investigation shows a vehicle traveling southbound on Telegraph, just north of Pennsylvania, struck a pedestrian who was walking in the right southbound travel lane.

Detectives are working to identify the victim, Blair said. He had no identification on him, but did have a cell phone, which police are trying to unlock.

It does not appear that speed or alcohol or drugs were not factors with the driver in the crash, the chief said.

There are some streetlights in the area of the crash, Blair said, but it isn't a place "that's lit up like a Christmas tree." There are also no sidewalks in the area, he added.

Telegraph Road at the scene of the crash was closed until about 10:30 a.m. to allow police to conduct their investigation.
