Snyder names board appointments at 6 universities
Now that voters elected representatives to the governing boards of the state’s Big Three public universities, Gov. Rick Snyder on Tuesday announced appointments to the governing boards of six other public universities.
All appointments are eight-year terms (unless otherwise noted), expiring Dec. 31, 2024. The appointments:
■Eastern Michigan University: Eunice Jeffries, a Farmington Hills resident and regional community affairs manager for Beaumont Health; and Alexander Simpson, a Southfield resident who is legal counsel for HIS Inc. They will replace Regents Carolyn (Beth) Fitzsimmons and James Stapleton.
■Ferris State University Board of Trustees: Robert Hegbloom, a Clarkston resident who is head of Ram Brand International for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles; Amna Seibold, mayor of East Grand Rapids and director of the department of pathology for Mercy Health Saint Mary’s; and LaShanda Thomas, a Grosse Pointe resident who is managing director and founder of the Clairmount Group. Hegbloom will serve the remainder of a term expiring Dec. 31, 2020; Seibold and Thomas are replacing Trustees Erin Brown, Alisha Baker and Arthur Tebo.
■Grand Valley State University Board of Trustees: Randall Damstra, an Ada resident who is senior managing director and head of global private equity for Ottawa Avenue Private Capital. Meanwhile, Snyder reappointed Trustee Kate Pew Wolters, a Grand Rapids resident and president of the Kate and Richard Wolters Foundation. Damstra will replace Trustee David Way.
■Michigan Technological University Board of Trustees: Derhun Sanders, a Redford Township resident who is a government liaison for the U.S. Army Research Development Engineering Command’s Tank-Automotive Research, Development & Engineering Center; and Steven Tomaszewski, a Howell resident who is the director of global facilities for General Motors. They will replace Trustees Thomas Baldini and Paul Ollila.
■Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees: Lisa Fittante, a Kingsford resident who is president of Fittante & Colenso CPA PC; Alexis Hart, a Royal Oak resident who is director of NAFTA and Human Resources Shared Services for Daimler AG; and James Haveman, a Grand Haven resident and president of Haveman Group.Haveman will serve the remainder of a term expiring Dec. 31, 2020. The three are replacing Trustees L. Garnet Lewis, H. Sook Wilkinson and Thomas Zurbuchen.
■Western Michigan University Board of Trustees: Ronald (Ron) Kitchens, a Portage resident and CEO of Southwest Michigan First; and Shani Penn, a Farmington Hills resident who is chief of staff to Chancellor Veronica Conforme for the Education Achievement Authority of Michigan. They will replace Trustees James Hettinger and Mary Asmonga-Knapp.
