The 19-year-old Central Michigan University student accused of killing his parents inside a dorm room last week has been transferred from a hospital to jail, according to school officials.

James Eric Davis Jr. was transferred to the Isabella County Jail Wednesday afternoon, they said. He was in police custody at a hospital being treated for hypothermia, officials said.

The move came about a day after Davis was formally charged with murder in the Friday slayings of James Davis Sr. and Diva Davis. The family is from the Chicago suburb of Plainfield, where Davis Sr. was a part-time police officer.

An Isabella County Trial Court judge arraigned Davis on the charges and ordered him held on a $1.25 million bond.

Prosecutors had sought to maintain a $3 million bond, arguing Davis is a flight risk.

Investigators say the couple was helping their son pack for spring break when they were shot with a gun that belonged to Davis Sr.

They’d picked their son up that morning from a hospital, where he was taken for evaluation after police said he was acting erratically, according to police.

After the shooting, Davis was seen fleeing the residence building. He was arrested early Saturday following a manhunt.

School officials also said campus police investigators are working with the Isabella County Prosecutor's Office and cannot release further details regarding the case.
