Family: ‘Justice was not done’ in police shooting

Cincinnati — The family of a man fatally shot by police at an Ohio Wal-Mart says it is heartbroken and disgusted by a special grand jury’s decision not to indict police.

A statement issued by the family of 22-year-old John Crawford III says “justice was not done.”

A Greene County grand jury on Wednesday opted not to issue any indictments in Crawford’s Aug. 5 death in Beavercreek.

A 911 caller reported Crawford was waving what appeared to be a rifle in the store. Police said he didn’t obey commands to put down what turned out to be an air rifle.

Crawford’s family wants federal authorities to investigate whether race was a factor in the shooting. Crawford was black, the officers are white.

The Justice Department says it will conduct a review.
