Chief: Neighbor stabbed 3 young brothers to death
New Bern, N.C. — A North Carolina police chief says a neighbor attacked a Burmese family with a knife, stabbing three young brothers to death and wounding their mother and sister.
The slain brothers were ages 1, 5 and 12. New Bern Police Chief Toussaint Summers Jr. said Wednesday he didn’t know the motive for the attack Tuesday night.
The police chief says the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Eh Lar Doh Htoo, was also Burmese. He has been arrested. Police said they don’t know whether he has an attorney and a language barrier is affecting the investigation.
The wounded mother and her 14-year-old daughter have been released from the hospital.
New Bern is a coastal town of 30,000 and home to about 1,900 Burmese refugees.
