Honolulu — Military officials have identified the 24-year-old Marine killed when a military aircraft crashed during a training exercise in Hawaii over the weekend.

The Marine Corps says Lance Cpl. Joshua Barron, of Spokane, Washington, died of injuries sustained when the MV-22 Osprey went down Sunday at a military base outside Honolulu.

There were 21 Marines and a Navy corpsman on board. One Marine was critically injured. Three others were still hospitalized in stable condition on Monday.

Barron was a tilt-rotor crew chief assigned to the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 161 with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

The 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit is based at Camp Pendleton in California and is in Hawaii for about a week of training.
