Industrial engineer dies after fall in lab freezer

Associated Press

Salt Lake City — An employee of a Salt Lake City medical laboratory has died after falling inside a two-story storage freezer.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, fell Thursday while performing maintenance at the ARUP Laboratories facility at the University of Utah Research Park. He reportedly fell about 15 feet.

Salt Lake City Fire Spokesman Jasen Asay says the man had been in the freezer for at least 15 minutes before co-workers found him and carried him outside.

Police and paramedics arrived at the scene, and the man was taken to the hospital.

President and CEO of ARUP, Dean Li, says the man was an industrial engineer who had been working with ARUP for about nine years.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident.
