Happy ending for woman, puppy who lost eyes

The Detroit News

It’s a touching story pulling heartstrings all over the country: a woman and an adorable puppy who both lost an eye have found each other.

A restaurant worker, in Alabama was shot during an attempted carjacking in June, according to a GoFundMe page set up to cover the medical costs of the woman identified only as Maria. She has undergone four surgeries, with at least two more planned and an appointment with a specialist to begin making her a prosthetic eye, the site said.

She eventually connected with the Animal Rescue Foundation, a nonprofit in Alabama that was tending to tiny “Bear.” Last month, as a 4-week-old puppy, he was attacked by another dog, according to a post on the YouCaring crowd-funding website, and had to have his left eye removed.

In a story by the Huffington Post that was shared on the animal rescue group’s Facebook page, Maria adopted Bear this month.

“The moment she saw (Yogi) Bear’s photo, she knew they were meant for each other,” the post from the YouCaring read.

“As for this sweet guy, he’s recovering nicely. He had his sutures removed recently and also received his first official set of vaccinations. He’s gained almost .5 pound and is the sweetest thing ever!”
