Newborn who plunged from N.Y.C. building was thrown
New York — Police say a newborn girl with her umbilical cord still attached who plunged seven stories to her death from a window of a New York City apartment building had been thrown.
Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Barbara Sampson says Tuesday the infant’s death was caused by multiple blunt force injuries. She ruled it a homicide.
Police say charges against the child’s mother are pending.
Officers responded to the seven-floor apartment building in the Bronx on Monday after a 911 caller reported an infant had fallen from a window.
The woman’s boyfriend told police he was in another room when the baby was born and when the baby plunged from the window and didn’t realize either event had occurred. He also told police he had no idea his girlfriend was even pregnant.
