S.C. officials prepare to search for baby in creek
Socastee, S.C. — Rescue workers in eastern South Carolina are preparing to resume the search for a 5-month-old girl after a woman said she put her baby in a creek near Socastee.
Horry County Police Lt. Raul Denis said in an email Wednesday morning that officials were meeting as they wait for the weather to clear. Denis says there were storms near the Intracoastal Waterway.
Officers were called Tuesday by a resident who said a woman was on her porch who said she had put her child in the water.
Investigators think the woman had been in the water with the child, Grace, a short distance away and came out of the water without the girl.
The mother, 33-year-old Sarah Lane Toney of Myrtle Beach, has been arrested on unrelated charges.
