New Scotland, N.Y. — Authorities say a woman wrecked her car, ran into the woods when responding officers showed up and fell about 60 feet off a cliff in New York.

The woman was hospitalized with serious injuries after the fall Tuesday night.

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple says the woman was involved in a one-car accident on a road leading to Thacher State Park in New Scotland, just west of the capital. He says alcohol was found in her car.

Apple says after the crash, the woman went to a nearby home for help. He says she fled when police arrived and then fell off the cliff.

Crews spent more than two hours trying to rescue her. Apple says she was able to talk when rescuers reached her.

The incident remains under investigation.
