Georgia school reopens after report of armed suspect

Associated Press

Columbus, Ga. — Columbus State University police say the Georgia school has reopened after a report of an armed suspect in a student residence hall.

Columbus State said in a tweet that an “all clear” was issued because the “suspect is believed to have left the area.” It did not identify the person or say whether police were pursuing the suspect. In earlier statements Wednesday, the university said police were searching for a 17-to-19 year old man wearing dark clothes and a stocking cap.

Police gave the all-clear after searching Clearview Hall, a new residential complex housing first-year students in suite-style housing.

Video shot by The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer showed officers in tactical gear walking into the building.

The school is in Columbus, Georgia, about 100 miles southwest of Atlanta.
