Travel ban generates record donations for ACLU

The Detroit News

ACLU raised more than $24 million in online donations this weekend, at the same time of growing outrage and protest over a newly implemented immigrant travel ban.

Those funds came from 356,306 donations, spokesman Steve Smith said.

Kary Moss, the executive director of the ACLU of Michigan, didn’t have specific results for Michigan on Sunday night but said membership has soared 60 percent to nearly 22,000 since President Donald Trump’s election.

The donations are crucial because “the demands have never been greater,” Moss said.
