Georgia teen gets 5 years in prison for shoe robbery
Columbus, Ga. – A Georgia teen is being sentenced to five years in prison for stealing a pair of shoes.
The Ledger-Enquirer reports that Dayonn Davis was charged as an adult despite being 15 at the time.
Prosecutor Sadhana Dailey said he and another male answered a Facebook classified ad to buy the Nike “Oreos” at a Columbus park in January 2016. Davis tried them on, and then the other male pulled out a pistol and everyone ran.
Davis named the gunman, but the victim couldn’t identify him from photos, leaving Davis on the hook for the shoes in his closet.
Defense attorney Susan Henderson says Davis lacked a juvenile record and is “extremely remorseful.”
But Superior Court Judge Bobby Peters said Davis took the shoes and must do the time.
