American Airlines Group Inc. has asked the federal government not to fly immigrant children separated from their families on its aircraft as part of the the Trump administration’s recent "zero tolerance" changes to U.S. border enforcement policy.

The airline has "no knowledge” that U.S. officials have used American to transport the children "but we would be extremely disappointed to learn that is the case," it said in a statement Wednesday.

“We have therefore requested the federal government to immediately refrain from using American for the purpose of transporting children who have been separated from their families due to the current immigration policy,” the carrier said. "We have no desire to be associated with separating families, or worse, to profit from it.

“We have every expectation the government will comply with our request and we thank them for doing so.”

President Donald Trump said he will sign an executive order to keep families together amid the furor over his policy of separating children from their parents after they’re caught illegally crossing into the country.
