VP Pence set to headline Ga. rally in governor’s race

Atlanta – Vice President Mike Pence is set to headline a rally in Georgia in support of Secretary of State Brian Kemp’s bid for governor.

The event is being held in Macon on Saturday afternoon. It comes just three days before Kemp’s runoff against fellow Republican Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle on Tuesday.

Pence’s visit was quickly set after President Donald Trump waded into the race Wednesday, tweeting his “full and total endorsement” for Kemp. Trump pointed to Kemp’s strong position on illegal immigration and support for gun rights.

Cagle had a number of campaign stops in northern Georgia planned for Saturday. He was scheduled to make stops in Cleveland and Hiawassee.

The winner faces Democrat Stacey Abrams in the general election in November.
