Midland — Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette is scheduled to have hip replacement surgery this month and is planning a ski trip before going under the knife.

His office says Schuette, described as an avid lifelong runner, skier and basketball player, will have surgery on his left hip March 16 at MidMichigan Health’s medical center in Midland.

The 61-year-old Republican expects to have a short stay in the hospital following surgery and has been told he should expect to be walking soon afterward. Schuette’s office says he plans a ski trip this weekend with his family and looks forward to skiing again next winter.

Schuette, who has done pre-surgery physical therapy, plans to work from home for a brief period of time and continue to fully manage the activities of his office.
