State canvassers rejected recall petitions against Gov. Rick Snyder and Sen. Wayne Schmidt on Monday — Snyder because of Flint water problems and Schmidt for his Nov. 3 votes on a road funding package.

By unanimous votes, the board of two Democrats and two Republicans found both proposed recall petitions don’t state the recall reasons clearly and factually.

The petition against Snyder was the second from Detroit clergyman William Scott Brown, who didn’t attend the meeting. The petition against Schmidt, the Traverse City Republican, came from a constituent named William Bailey.

“It’s my right, I feel as a citizen, to rein in what I consider a runaway legislature,” Bailey said.

The canvassers held a short discussion before casting their votes.
