Right to Life of Michigan Political Action Committee endorsed all four Republican candidates for governor Tuesday.

Right to Life spokesman Chris Gast said the group also gave an exclusive endorsement to John James, a Farmington Hills Republican attempting to unseat Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow.

Among the Republicans running for governor are Attorney General Bill Schuette of Midland, Lt. Gov. Brian Calley of Portland, state Sen. Patrick Colbeck of Canton Township and Saginaw obstetrician Jim Hines.

Schuette touted his role as a “leader in the prolife movement” as the reason for the PAC’s repeated endorsement through the years. In a statement Tuesday, he said he was honored to receive the support and looked forward to working with the group “on behalf of the pro-life cause for years to come.”

Calley said, if elected governor, he plans to continue "to fight to protect life," an effort he said he's sustained throughout his career.

“Every human life is a gift, is unique and is full of profound dignity and grace," Calley said. "That is why nothing is more important than protecting human life."

Running on the Democratic ticket are candidates Gretchen Whitmer, Abdul El-Sayed, Shri Thanedar and Bill Cobbs. Whitmer last Thursday received the endorsement of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan.
