GOP presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida will hold a campaign rally Tuesday in Grand Rapids, two weeks before Michigan Republicans vote in the March 8 primary.

Rubio's rally is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at a Lacks Enterprises auto parts research and development facility in Grand Rapids.

It's Rubio's third campaign trip to the Great Lakes State and his first trip to the Republican-heavy territory of west Michigan, where Rubio and the five remaining GOP presidential candidates are expected to campaign heavily over the next two weeks.

U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga, a Zeeland Republican co-chairing Rubio's Michigan campaign, has been working to bring Rubio to west Michigan in recent weeks after campaigning for the senator in Iowa, where Rubio finished third in the Feb. 1 caucuses.

Rubio polled third in a recent Detroit News/WDIV-TV poll with support from 12 percent of likely Republican primary voters, trailing U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas at 15 percent and billionaire businessman Donald Trump at 25 percent support. The statewide telephone poll of 600 likely GOP primary voters was conducted Feb. 14-16.

Rubio was last in Michigan on Dec. 9 for a rally at the Oakland County International Airport in Waterford and a fundraiser at a real estate developer's office in Bloomfield Hills.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for Tuesday's rally and advance online registration is required to get into the rally, according to the Rubio campaign.
