City councilman from Alabama shot in robbery in South Africa
A city councilman from Mobile, Alabama, is in stable condition after he was shot in the face in Johannesburg, South Africa, over the weekend.
News outlets report C.J. Small was shot on Saturday when a tour bus he was riding on was ambushed and people on board were robbed.
Mobile City Council spokeswoman Marion Steinfels said in a statement that Small is expected to recover.
Small, who owns a mortuary, traveled to South Africa to attend the South African Funeral Director & Morticians Association Convention.
The family is working with the U.S. Consulate Office in Johannesburg as well as the Secretary of State in Washington. It is unclear when he will be able to be released from the hospital and return to the United States.
