Work and play

Bill Bonds was legendary in Detroit. He challenged Coleman A. Young to a fight on air. Enjoyed his job and life even more.

Bill Stephenson, Plainwell

A rare talent

I hired Bill Bonds at WALM, and later was on the air with him on WKNR when President John Kennedy was shot in Dallas. Bill and I made the decision, with no management in the building, to go all talk. Bill scooped every radio or TV station in Detroit with his ability to think and talk without a script. He was the best and worst hire I ever made and the most brilliant, talented newsperson I have ever known.

Jim Beasley, Lebanon, Tenn.
