Comments: Is the flat tax right for Michigan?

The problem with flat taxes

Re: Paul Mitchell’s June 23 column, “Keep Michigan taxes simple”: Even the Michigan flat tax isn’t fair. Why should one individual pay more for the same service as another individual?

Nothing else we buy, including cars, gasoline, food, is based on what we earn. Why should government be any different? At least the current Michigan tax is fairer than the federal system.

If we could just keep politicians from handing out special tax privileges to buy votes, the system would be fairer.

Honoring history

The 1950s are basically the time frame that conservatives are desperate to go back to, and we had progressive taxes back then, so what is the problem? You want to take your country back? This is part of it.
