Letters: On protecting Detroit’s children
The problem with squeaky wheels
Re: Bankole Thompson’s July 16 column, “A plea for Detroit’s children”: What do you expect? Children don’t vote, they don’t pay taxes and their voices are drowned out by the demagogues and rabble rousers.
There are a lot of good people who are trying on their own, from individuals to churches that are trying to support the children of the city. However, it’s easier to get your face on TV or your name in the paper by showing up at a public meeting to spout righteous indignation.
Detroit kids are our kids
We need to summon a collective resolve about the children in our Detroit community. They deserve the same shot at a good life. That means a good education, stable home life and opportunity. Well stated.
