Rep. Miller: Fiorina should be next president
I am convinced Carly Fiorina is the person who is best prepared to protect both our security at home and our vital national interest across the globe as the next president of the United States.
Our commander in chief must fix the damage inflicted on America’s security position and restore America as the leader of the free world once again. Carly is the candidate with the best experience to represent this country on the international stage, to rein in ineffective federal bureaucracies, and to communicate with the American people a conservative vision to help all people reach their full potential.
As Carly has said, a world where the United States is not leading is a frightening one. Given my role as vice chair of the House Homeland Security Committee and as chairman of the Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security, I could not agree more. The United States can only continue as a world superpower with a strong military that is respected across the globe if we build prosperity here at home. Carly understands that to build that strong economy that we have to make tough choices, and provide the leadership to make it happen.
That is something Carly has done her entire career. She was extremely successful in instilling a culture of performance and efficiency as CEO of Hewlett-Packard during difficult economic times, and now, Carly has the same opportunity to bring fresh perspective needed to fix the federal government. Carly’s a businesswoman — she’ll bring with her the simple, common-sense leadership we need in our next president, and she will get the job done.
Carly’s strong leadership style, along with her intellectual and emotional fortitude, is exactly what our commander in chief needs. Carly’s strong faith and deep personal convictions give her a commanding presence that earns respect. Her debate performances thus far have proven that she has the ability to effectively communicate our shared conservative beliefs, across the gamut of issues, in a way that will help turn those beliefs into national policy.
The proof of her ability is that she rose her way to the top of the corporate ladder as a woman in the 1980s and 1990s, which took courage and strength. While Carly’s not one to say it herself, she faced astounding opposition in her journey to fulfill her personal potential, and due to the strength of her character, she succeeded. Carly cannot be intimidated and her leadership skills and drive allowed her to rise above every naysayer so that she could make a positive difference in people’s lives.
While running for the U.S. Senate, Carly faced unimaginable tragedies. In her words, “time stopped” twice in nine months. First, Carly found out she had breast cancer in early 2009. She underwent treatment while campaigning around California. Then, Carly and her husband, Frank, lost their daughter, Lori, to addiction. We all have known some in our own families who have endured similar challenges and know the strength it takes to get through such difficult days.
Carly is no different. She drew upon her deep faith in God to pull her through a very dark time, and drew her family ever closer. It is a testament to Carly’s character and conviction and has taught her that each day is a gift that must be used in a positive way.
It’s crystal clear to me: Carly Fiorina is uniquely equipped to lead our country in the 21st century. We can trust she’ll restore America’s strength on the global stage. We can trust that she will foster an economic environment that empowers Michigan families and families across the country to reach their full potential. We can trust she will handle the challenges of the office with poise, courage and grace.
