As I concluded my annual “Homecoming” broadcast from one of my alma maters, Monroe County Community College, I was reminded that it was 90 years ago this year cousins Edward M. Knabusch and Edwin J. Shoemaker built a game-changing piece of furniture in a garage in Monroe, with the goal of lasting comfort. Their hard work evolved into a true American success story and a brand that has become a household name: La-Z-Boy.

From that first chair to today’s full line of comfortable furniture for every room of the home (and accessories), from those two cousins in the garage to now more than 6,300 employees nationwide, spanning its corporate headquarters in Michigan, five U.S. manufacturing plants, six U.S. distribution centers, 142 corporate-owned La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries stores, and an additional 204 store locations that are dealer owned, chairman, president and CEO Kurt Darrow continues to do an incredible job with products that have become more innovative and design focused, with a commitment to both employees and customers that has remained steadfast, as they celebrate 90 years of American-made comfort.

To all of the hard-working employees of La-Z-Boy: Thank you for giving us all the chance to “Live Life Comfortably!”

Speaking of celebrations, all of Monroe will celebrate their Bicentennial in July. As we get closer, I’ll share details regarding all of the coming pomp and circumstances. There is one event I thought I better give you a heads-up on so you can get started.

It will feature a Beard and Mustache Contest! Get growing!
