The Detroit News Editorial Board Friday picked up first place honors in the prestigious National Headliners Awards.

The staff — Editorial Page Editor Nolan Finley, Deputy Editorial Page Editor Ingrid Jacques and Opinion Editor Kaitlyn Buss — was recognized for a selection of 2017 editorials that included: “MSU Must Come Clean on Abuse,” Dec. 6; “Epic failure exposes GOP’s dysfunction,” March 26; “Obama was a better talker than a leader,” Jan. 15; “Find best teachers for Detroit students,” Aug. 13; and “Connectivity will drive state’s future,” June 2.

The National Headliner awards were founded in 1934 by the Press Club of Atlantic City to honor the best journalism in newspapers, photography, radio, television and online. The annual contest is one of the oldest and largest in the country that recognizes journalistic merit in the communications industry.
