“'Outta’ My Mind on a Monday Moanin’ ”

Verbal attacks seem to be this recent week's trend.

I, for one, would not want to play poker with the seemingly very nice, clearly judiciously brilliant judge, soon to be Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Could you sit there for hours with such a straight poker face in the midst of everything being said in front and yelled and screamed from behind him?

Not me.

The onslaught is constant. The institutional media salivates from one salacious story to the next sure (at least clearly hoping) that this one will finally bring the president down. Minutes ago it was the book by Omarosa Manigault. I just had to look her name up! I only knew her as the person everybody loved to hate on “The Apprentice,” which I did not watch, and who became the person all of the media just loved because she was going to bring down the president. Whatever happened to her and her book?

Now, it’s a guy who has experience in bringing down a president, Bob Woodward. He clearly is smarter. He has a title we will at least remember after the book fades away: “Fear.”

As I write this, Washington is playing the guessing game regarding the secret insider author helping the New York Times continue its non-stop assault on President Trump. “I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration,” printed against all journalistic precedent: An op-ed published without attribution. Apparently following precedent is important when it comes to nominee Kavanaugh, but not to the New York Times.

The hypocrisy continues.

Paul W. Smith is host of The Paul W. Smith Show on WJR-AM (760) from 5:30-9 a.m. Monday-Friday.
