Smith: Cookies and charity

I would not have believed it if I hadn’t tasted one myself! Best commercially produced chocolate chip cookie EVER! Look for the new Sanders Fresh Baked Gourmet Chocolate Factory Cookies made with Sanders artisanal chocolate pieces.

They also have sea salt caramel, peanut butter crispy, blueberry oatmeal, caramel pecan, chocolate chunk, double chocolate mint, birthday celebration and english toffee cookies.

So far, I can only vouch for the chocolate chip, but I would bet they are all equally good.

Baked fresh daily. Easy to send as a gift to others and to yourself.

This year marks the fifth anniversary for “WJR’s Hunger Free in the D” presented by The Celani Family Foundation, so far, raising over $1.7 million, with $550,000 coming directly from Tom and Vicki Celani’s Family Foundation.

This year they will up their donation to $200,000, matching all personal or business donations up to that amount. There is also a new corporate challenge this year. All of the money raised goes directly to The Capuchin Soup Kitchen or Gleaners Food Bank and is said to be 100 percent tax deductible.

Roberta Chambers, of Detroit, works as a pastry chef in the kitchen on December 6, 2016 at the On the Rise Bakery run by the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit. The bakers have completed a substance abuse program and have found work and spiritual healing.

Join me for our annual Hunger Free in the D Radiothon Live broadcast and reception at LEAR Corporation on Nov. 19.

A celebration of “spirited” dining is on now through Sept. 23 at the (possibly) haunted Whitney Restaurant on Woodward in Detroit during their Cityfest.

A schedule of the many events can be found at: www.thewhitney.com

Grosse Pointe South’s celebrated track and cross country coach Steve Zaranek and The GPS Booster Club invite you to The 16th Annual “Run The Pointe” 5K, 10K, & Walk, Sept. 22.

Paul W. Smith is host of The Paul W. Smith Show on WJR-AM (760) from 5:30-9 a.m. Monday-Friday.
