Greimel: Stevens best choice for Congress

Tim Greimel

Haley Stevens is easily the best choice this November to represent us in the 11th Congressional District. She has the intelligence, the experience, the work ethic, and the values we need in Washington, D.C.

I have known Stevens for over a decade. She is a tenaciously hard worker who will be a fierce advocate for the residents of the 11th District and of Michigan as a whole. She was born and raised in this district, and she knows each community inside and out, from Canton to Auburn Hills.

In a political atmosphere that has become far too partisan, divisive, and polarized, Stevens will be a breath of fresh air.

As the chief of staff for President Obama’s Auto Rescue, Stevens put policy before politics and helped save 200,000 Michigan jobs. Her work in the federal government, as well as her leadership of a publicly-funded research lab, has prepared Stevens to be an effective and trustworthy steward of taxpayer dollars.

Greimel writes: "Michigan’s hard-working families need an advocate like Haley Stevens now more than ever."

Stevens’ vision for the future of our region, informed by her experience implementing federal job training programs, will help make southeast Michigan a hub of innovation and entrepreneurship in the decades ahead. Moreover, Stevens’ experience in federal government has given her the skill set to make sure that Michigan finally gets our fair share of federal funds, funds that can be used to fix our roads, bolster local public safety and invest in education.

Stevens knows that Congress already has enough partisan rubber-stamps on both sides of the aisle. That is why her campaign is laser-focused on the policy issues that will actually improve the lives of people in the 11th District.

Stevens’ platform, including lowering the cost of prescription drugs, promoting skills-training programs, and repairing our crumbling infrastructure, embodies common ground policies that will improve the quality of life for all residents of the 11th District, regardless of party.

Stevens is a friend of organized labor, and her focus has always been on creating opportunities for middle-class and working families. We can count on Stevens to protect Medicare and Social Security and to ensure that health care is accessible and affordable for everyone, including those with pre-existing conditions.

Haley Stevens understands people’s frustration with a Congress that doesn’t always welcome public input, and she is eager to rebuild trust between people and their federal representatives by making sure each and every family in the 11th District — Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike — know she values their perspectives and will listen to them.
