Opinion: Think long-haul strategies to get more drivers behind wheel

Staffing shortages are impacting nearly every industry these days, and trucking and transportation is no exception.

With recent reporting finding a shortage of 80,000 drivers nationally to meet demand — up nearly 33% from the reported 61,000-driver shortfall in 2019 — the situation in land transportation is especially dire. Here in Detroit, a major corridor for domestic and international shipping, the effects of that shortage are hitting home. But there are larger national implications for an already-disrupted supply chain.
