The Cuddlers offer babies healing touch

Last year, one of Peter and Danialle Karmanos’ young sons had an emergency surgery at Children’s Hospital. Danialle slept on a couch in his room, by his side, the entire time. During the stay, they noticed how many babies, for so many reasons, were alone. “I asked the brilliant Luanne Ewald (Children’s Hospital CEO) if I could come back with some other moms to cuddle babies,” Danialle recalls. “She said ‘yes,’ and The Cuddlers were born.” Outfitted in cheerful yellow hoodies with matching scrub pants and shoulder satchels, The Cuddlers — Danialle, Chrissy Krempel, Tracey Secco, Leah MacMartin, Connie Quarrier and Alexis Kiriluk — took flight. “My heart is overflowing,” says Danialle. Fishbone’s West rises from ex-Fishbone’s

After a year and a half hiatus, to the delight of many, Fishbone’s in Southfield has reopened. Rebranded as Fishbone’s West, the restaurant got a major facelift that included a new sign, a new roof, a repaved parking lot, new carpet, new bathrooms and much more. Nico Gatzaros, whose family owns the New Orleans-style restaurant, was proud to show us around the newly refurbished eatery, particularly a corner that was adorned with purple orchids and a beautiful photo of his father, the late, iconic Detroit dignitary, Ted Gatzaros. The Gatzaros family owns the London Chop House, and Fishbones in St. Clair Shores, Greektown, and the newly returned Southfield shop.

Gilbert’s Lodge kicks off Sunday brunch

Sunday brunches are popping up all over town at some of our favorite restaurants. Most recently, Sunday Funday came to Gilbert’s Lodge in St. Clair Shores. To promote it, owner Louie Bricolas invited a group of his friends to come check it. Among Louie’s guests were Tony and Andrea Raffin, Chris and Jen Mattina, Paul and Jennifer Becigneul and Zois Bricolas. Brunch is every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
