Private Marciano wine launch dinner a knockout

The Rugiero family (they own Antonio’s and Roman Village restaurants), in conjunction with the estate of Rocky Marciano, hosted a private dinner and wine tasting at Roman Village last week to announce the release of an exciting new red wine, Rocky Marciano Montepulciano d’ Abruzzo 2013. “As an undefeated world champion, my father was committed to excellence. Coming together with the Cantina Ripa Teatina to create a wine to honor this commitment has been an amazing experience, and I am very proud of this wine,” said Marciano Jr., who attended the VIP event. More than 150 people were there, including former boxer Tommy Hearns and Motown legend Martha Reeves. Guests tasted the deep ruby red wine accompanied by a full-course Italian gourmet meal. The wine is available at Antonio’s and Roman Village for $35 a bottle ($9 a glass). Over 40 cases were sold that night.

Fisher gig a first for Kimmie Horn

“In all the years that I’ve performed in Detroit, this is my first time at the Fisher Theatre,” says songstress Kimmie Horne. “I’m very excited to sing, dance and act on that legendary stage.” Kimmie will appear at the Fisher Theatre from March 23-25 in an exciting musical stage play called “One Harlem Night.” The show also stars Brian J. White, Carl Payne and Darrin Henson.

Couple to share their secrets for a great marriage

The Innovative Orators of Toastmasters International will present a conversation and book-signing session with celebrated motivational speaker Dr. Willie Jolley and his wife, Dee Taylor Jolley, on March 8. The gathering, which will be held at University of Phoenix, centers on the couple’s book, “Make Love, Make Money, Make it Last: 10 Secrets to Shape a Great Marriage.” The Jolleys boast that they’ve been married for 32 years and haven’t had as much as an argument in more than 30 years. They want to share their secrets to that success, inviting single people to attend as well. For more information, call 586-315-0772.
