SC: SCL Royal Oak rings in 1 year with DJ Brody Jenner
SCL Royal Oak rings in 1 year with DJ Brody Jenner
For the one-year anniversary of SCL Royal Oak (that’s the chic party venue above Bistro 82), owner Aaron F. Belen wanted to do something special to celebrate, so he’s featuring back-to-back appearances by two of the hottest deejays in the country. On Friday, Brody Jenner (yes, from the Jenner/Kardashian clan), a resident deejay at Hakkasan in Las Vegas, will play a live set. And on Saturday, Vinny Ventiera (aka DJ Vinsane), who was on “The Bachelorette,” Season 12, and “Bachelor in Paradise,” Season 3, will play. Detroit’s own DJ Captn20 will play sets on both nights. Belen owns SCL, Bistro 82 and The Morrie, all in Royal Oak.
Gleaners on the march to give 1 million meals to kids
Gleaners Community Food Bank hosted its 25th annual Women’s Power Breakfast at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday. More than 650 women arrived to a beautiful bounty of fresh produce representing their mission of support. The corridor came to life with green cascading fabrics draped overhead and centerpieces of green apples and fresh croissants. After amazing heartfelt testimonials from two Gleaners clients — 15-year-old Mayerlyn Duenas and Katie Kirkpatrick, a mother of four — there was not a dry eye in the house. Dynamic event chairs Luanne Ewald and Juliette Okotie-Eboh made the morning fun and efficient as strides were made toward the goal of providing 1 million meals for hungry children.
The party on at the renovated Rose Room
The Townsend hotel in Birmingham was very vivid Saturday when 300 parents from Detroit County Day School raised funds while sipping champagne cocktails topped with cotton candy. After an evening of dancing and decadence, a lively crew — led by event chairs, Don and Tracy Nystrom — headed to the recently renovated Rose Room at 220. Owner Zaid Elia rolled out the red carpet and cued the custom red baby grand where the group danced until 3 a.m.
