Society: Great Big Auction benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters
Exciting, once-in-a-lifetime, experiential auction packages were featured during The Great Big Auction on Friday at Motor City Casino’s Soundboard, benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters. Nearly 300 people attended the new-style charity event that was hosted by Fox 2 News’ Maurielle Lue and chaired by Rick Hampson, president of Citizens Bank.
A dozen Metro Detroit movers and shakers were identified as auction warriors by Big Brothers Big Sisters, who in turn presented awesome auction packages that included a trip to L.A. for a Rams game (presented by Ngum Suh), physical workout sessions with NFL players (presented by Armond Rashad), and a “Day at Sea” yacht ride with food, cocktails and live entertainment (presented by Angye Ennis). Popular local recording artist Beth performed during the presentation of that package.
The top fundraising auction item was presented by chef Bobby Nahra and this columnist for a “Dining in the D” package that includes special dinners at Bacco, Bella Piatti, the London Chop House, Beans & Cornbread, Lelli’s (to name a few), along with a private party at The Roostertail, with Celani Wines and gift certificates from Dolce Moda and Cicchinni Clothiers.
Along with a lively auctioneer, the party included great recorded music, fun food (a variety of tacos, sliders and sushi), and a hilarious performance from BET "Comic View" comedienne, Coco.
"We are so grateful to everyone who attended and supported our event,” says Jeannine Gant, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Detroit. “We believe that mentoring plays an important role in helping at risk youth see the possibilities of a successful future. The money we raise allows us to match more children with well-trained supportive volunteers who serve as mentors."
Tickets to the event were $100 for VIP and $60-$75 for general admission. Over $155,000 was raised to benefit BBBS’ mentoring efforts for kids in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties.
