Jeffrey Abood shows support for Nassar abuse survivors

Famed Birmingham celebrity lawyer Jeffrey Abood and his cousin/law partner Andrew Abood went to the ESPYS last week in Los Angeles not only in support of their pro athlete clients who were nominated, but also to support their clients who are survivors of the Larry Nasser sexual abuse cases. Close to 200 abuse survivors lined the stage that night to receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. “It was a very important moment in the show,” says Jeffrey. During their stay, the Aboods had a chance to hang with Derek Jeter,Shawn Kemp, Josef Newgarden and Judge Rosemarie Aquilina, who presided over the Nasser case.

Rockers enjoy time Bella Piatti

A couple weeks ago, Journey bass man Ross Valory dined at Bella Piatti in Birmingham with a group of friends. He signed autographs, took selfies and appeared to have a smashing good time. A week later, another rocker, Thomas Edward Yorke, frontman for Radiohead, sat at the same patio table with his girlfriend, Italian actress Dajana Roncione, and a teenage girl, possibly his daughter, Agnes Yorke. He seemed to be having an equally enjoyable experience, except with no interruptions, please. We watched as he politely turned away two fans begging for a photo. We’re told that he asked the restaurant’s maître‘d, Kevin Mazziotta, to keep other curious diners at bay. Hey, sometimes a guy just wants to have a nice quiet dinner with his peeps. Okay, we disobeyed. We managed to snag an over-the-shoulder photo shot.

Detroiter connects with her idol once again

Detroit dancer/choreographer Sharon Freed-Moreland had a chance to meet her idol Debbie Allen last week when the actress/dancer visited Detroit for a reception at the Hillberry Theatre in her honor, hosted by The Carr Center and co-chaired by Carol Goss and Vivian Pickard. “Actually, this is the second time that we’ve met,” recalls Freed-Moreland, who owns a dance studio called 3D Dance Academy. “I danced in a show that Aretha Franklin did at The Kennedy Center in New York several years ago. Debbie came backstage and complimented me on my dance skills.” Allen’s appearance last week was part of The Carr Center’s ongoing summer art programs. The 3D Dance Academy has most recently been invited to perform at the Olympic events in Tokyo in 2020.
