Tom and Diane Schoenith performed double anniversary duty this weekend. First, on Friday when they celebrated wedding anniversaries with nearly 200 other couples in conjunction with The Roostertail’s 60th year in business, and then on Saturday, where 150 of their dear friends came out to toast the Schoenith’s 50th year of marriage.

In recognition of The Roostertail’s 60th year as Detroit’s premier riverfront entertainment complex, the Schoeniths, who own it, invited all couples who had their wedding receptions there during the past six decades. Simultaneously, in another part of the building, the Schoenith’s adult children -- Michael, Mary Kay and John – hosted a private dinner for about 25 people honoring their parent’s marriage.

On Friday, The Roostertail was filled with food and drink stations. Most impressive was a 5-foot seafood tower and the multitude of drink stations including a champagne bar, a martini bar, a margarita bar and one that offered nothing but Moscow Mules. There was also music and a fun photo booth. Near the end of the evening, Tom and Diane did a wedding dance on the elevating dance floor, ending with a spectacular fireworks presentation over the Detroit River. The Schoeniths weres also trying to break a world record that evening with the most couples in the same area in which they were married. They will find out in a couple of weeks if they broke the record.

On Saturday afternoon, the Schoeniths hosted a brunch at 42 Degrees North inside the Renaissance Center. The theme was tropical with vibrant colored linens and exotic flowers, including orchid leis for all the ladies. A brunch featuring everything from sausages to salmon was served. The deejay played tropical music before going into a set where he played all music that was premiered at The Roostertail during its era of live entertainment.

Several prominent guests attended one or both events, including Edsel and Cynthia Ford, Rosemary and Contessa Bannon, Stephanie Germack, Carol Minowitz, Mary Ford, Tom and Marjorie Monaghan, Kano and Mandisa Smith, Linda Solomon and Mado Lie.

Chuck Bennett is the creator of TheSocialMetro.com and hosts “Chuck’s World” from 4-5 p.m. Saturdays on 910AM Superstation.
