Friends celebrate milestones with dinner

Portia Roberson and Rhonda Walker had a celebration last week with seven of their best girlfriends at Joe Muer Seafood in downtown Detroit. Portia, a former city of Detroit exec and lawyer, was just tapped as the new CEO for Focus: HOPE, and Rhonda, a WDIV-TV morning anchor, was just engaged to wealth manager Jason Drumheller. The ladies fashionably dined on a variety of culinary delights from the popular restaurant, washing them down with an abundance of fine champagne, all laced with joyful laughter and lively conversation. The guests, all lifelong friends, included Judge Robbie Archer, Reva Orr Smith, Lise-Pauline Barnett, Dr. Christine Clark, Davena Jackson, Dr. Jennifer Fuller and Lisa Mills. Rhonda also celebrates 20 years in Detroit television and 15 years empowering teen girls with her eponymous foundation at a party this week at dPOP. Congratulations to Portia and Rhonda as they enter new chapters of their lives.

Super cool business tycoon Yousif Ghafari recognized 36 years in business recently with a futuristic-style gathering. Ghafari Associates, an architecture, engineering, consulting and construction firm, hosted a TechConnect open house for its clients, collaborators and nonprofit partners at its contemporary Dearborn headquarters. Over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, guests experienced drone flight demos, 3-D prototyping, virtual and augmented reality and a delightfully kooky interactive photo booth. Some 400 guests attended the strolling event, which showcased a multitude of emerging technologies and approaches.
