Ahhh – that crisp cool air in the early morning hours, and that tinge of yellow and gold on tree leaves are wonderful reminders to many of us that the knitting and crocheting season is just around the corner, and with it comes the third “Detroit News Stitch-Together!”

That’s right – once again, I’ll be hosting another exciting get-together for local knitters and crocheters to join yours truly Oct. 5, from 1-3:30 p.m., on the eighth floor of our downtown office building for a free afternoon of stitching, show-and-tell, lots of surprises and meeting other yarn enthusiasts from across Metro Detroit. Light refreshments will be provided.

Sixteen knitters and crocheters will be selected to attend the event, and one very lucky person will walk away the (door prize) winner of a gift box chock full of georgeous yarns and needleart supplies, all generously donated by Woolly&Co. (147 Pierce) in downtown Birmingham.

The lovely and reusable felt-covered gift box contains a GoKnit Pouch, a hand-dyed silk scarf, a tape measure, a Bryson Notions Pouch, Marblz 32-inch circular needles in sizes 4-6, Ewe Ewe Wooly Worsted yarn, Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino, Debbie Bliss Rialto DK Print, Queensland Collection Brisbane, Ella Rae Chunky Merino Superwash, Euro Baby Babe Jazz, Juniper Moon Farm Zooey Aran, Ella Rae Cozy Bamboo, Louisa Harding Pittura, Malabrigo Rios, KFI Luxury Collection Dulcet, Juniper Moon Farm Zooey, Debbie Bliss Cotton Denim DK, Louisa Harding Pitturissimo, Marasol Ushya, and Debbie Bliss Roma Weave. The total retail value is a whopping $387.50!

So, if you’re a knitter and/or crocheter interested in being considered to take part in our upcoming “Stitch-Together,” you can enter one of two ways. If you’re a Detroit News subscriber, you can use the entry form at detroitnews.com/insider, and if selected, you’ll also be eligible to receive a Detroit News merchandise item. Nonsubscribers should enter at detroitnews.com/stitchtogether.

Also, to be eligible, both subscribers and nonsubscribers will need to email photos of several of their finished projects to yours truly at jbrown@detroitnews.com. Please include the words “Stitch-Together” and your name in the subject line. (You must be at least 18 years of age to attend.)

The deadline to submit your entry is Sept. 21 at midnight. Winners will be notified by, or before, Sept. 26 via email.

Those selected will be asked to bring a finished knitted or crocheted project for show-and-tell, one new skein of yarn from their stash to trade, and, of course, something to knit or crochet.

The Detroit News is at 160 W. Fort, one block west of Campus Martius in Downtown Detroit. Hourly parking is available in nearby surface lots.
