Editor’s Note: Three cheers for road crews

In a lot of places, 10 inches of snow would mean days of paralysis and panic.

And even in Metro Detroit, in years past, a one-day snowfall of that magnitude would have been challenging.

But I want to give a shout-out to the local road crews who worked throughout the day and night Sunday to clear the main surface streets and freeways, making Monday’s commute no big deal.

Although schools were closed across the area Monday, it wasn’t really necessary. In all three counties, you could get where you wanted to go.

That was particularly true in Detroit, which has had difficulty in the past clearing its roads.

I took my class of University of Michigan students on a bus tour of the city Monday night, and the roads were in remarkably good shape.

We are quick to criticize when the snow doesn’t get moved out of our way.

This week, we owe a big thank you to the crews across the region who did their jobs so well.
