“Outta’ My Mind on a Saturday Moanin’

Wouldn’t you love to know all of the behind-the-scenes conversations and machinations that went into Vice President Joe Biden’s final decision to forgo his dream of becoming the next president of the United States.

We won’t know until the book, or books, come out.

We do know that big “whoooosh” was the sound of all of the Hillary Clinton supporters exhaling.

The lead up to the Clinton/Benghazi hearings gave us a chance to be reminded of just how effective vintage Clinton tactics are in diverting attention away from their, (in this case, her) responsibility for failure and in their ability to lay the groundwork to imply or come right out and say, anyone questioning them is doing so for only nefarious reasons.

And then when the hearings begin, we see how broken the system in Washington is when one side takes its “questioning” time to build up the person being questioned and saying what a great job she did and how the failures were everyone else’s fault.

And then the other side seems to be more interested in making damning statements rather than asking pointed and relevant questions and demanding real answers to its queries.

I will say some of the questioners did indeed ask the right questions, but again we are reminded of how very hard it is to “lay a glove on” such a skillful deflector.

Headlines that made me do a double take:

“Cholesterol may be cancer cure” and “3 Injured when mom re-hydrates pizza slices”

Reminded me of that old Woody Allen film when the guy wakes up to find cigarette smoking is actually good for you after all!

Paul W. Smith is host of “The Paul W. Smith Show” on WJR-AM (760) from 5:30-9 a.m. Monday-Friday.
