I took this past Thursday off to elevate my professional performance.

I was given the chance to spend the day with some of the most prolific leaders around.

Believe me, I’ve read — or started to read — my share of business and self-help books, but the people I have had the pleasure of interviewing or seeing present their story in person has certainly had the greatest impact on me and on my life.

When Josh Linkner, two-time New York Times bestselling author, tech entrepreneur, and so much more, but most importantly co-founder, and chairman of, first “Fuel Detroit,” now Fuel, expanding beyond its origins in our Motor City, including being in Las Vegas in February of 2017, and then back here again in April of 2017.

This would also be a good time to salute co-founder of Fuel, Jordan Broad and Dave Zilko, CEO of Fuel Leadership.

Though this is my second year as emcee, I still don’t know how they put so many great people together for one day. And they were all there, in person.

Michael Strahan, Martha Stewart, Marcus Buckingham, Veronika Scott, astronaut Mark Kelly, Shinola President Jacques Panis, Detroit Police Chief James Craig, Sarah Kay, Mitch Albom, Roy M. Wilson and Acura’s Michelle Christensen. Roop Raj was there with Carolyn Clifford, Devin Scillian, Stephen Henderson, Jay Towers and Taryn Asher.

They all provided strategies, tactics, tips, tools and inside secrets to success.

And the good news: If you were not able to make the live event, you can find many of the special moments that magically occurred online.

In fact, “Daily Fuel” will premiere Monday with daily affirmations and useful information.

And look for “Fuel: Detroit III” next April.

Paul W. Smith is host of The Paul W. Smith Show on WJR-AM (760) from 5:30-9 a.m. Monday-Friday.
