Paul W. Smith: Another superb auto show
“Outta’ My Mind on a Monday Moanin’”
The 2017 North American International Auto Show is now “in the books.”
A lot of thanks, starting with all of the skilled labor and union members that worked countless hours for weeks to make the show look great and work as well as it did.
Thanks to all of the original equipment manufacturers, suppliers, industry members and general public that clearly get it and understand and appreciate the millions of dollars generated by the Charity Preview for area children’s charities and the hundreds of millions of new dollars impacting the entire area.
Thanks to Rod Alberts, guiding force, steady hand and long term executive director of the Detroit Auto Dealers Association and all of the hard working independent auto dealers in our area; great neighbors and great family businesses that contribute in so many ways.
A final congratulations and thanks to the chairman of the 2017 NAIAS, Sam Slaughter, and wife Anne, handling beautifully the stress, pressure and responsibility of putting on such a great world class show.
And now, Ryan LaFontaine, with the support of his wife Wendi, is already hard at work as the chairman of the 2018 NAIAS. Onward and upward, as we are on our way once again to an even bigger and better Detroit show, never to be taken for granted.
■As I thanked Delta Airlines and Andrea Fischer Newman for their important ongoing support of the Detroit Freedom Center Lounges for Military Travelers and Veterans at Metro Airport, I sadly had to announce Fischer Newman’s coming retirement from Delta this summer. Even with great people like Nick Demarco, Denise Daniel and others holding down the fort, she will be greatly missed but still very much around.
Explanation to follow.
