Smith: Muddy jeans, airlines and golf

“Outta’ My Mind on a Monday Moanin’ ”

Who has it worse today? The airline industry or the airline passenger?

No contest.

Though a survey by American Home Shield of 902 contractors claims that nearly 60 percent of contractors say they are often called to FIX homeowners’ do-it-yourself attempts to repair major systems or appliances, I still salute those of you who do “go for it!” I admire your self-confidence that I totally lack in this area. Heck, the contractors should salute you on giving it your best shot before having to call them, since do-it-yourself do-overs keep them in business!

And on the opposite end of the true “Do it yourself scale,” just when you thought you’d heard it all and it couldn’t get worse: Nordstrom introduces the Barracuda Straight Leg Jeans, said to be “heavily distressed medium-blue denim jeans in a comfortable straight-leg fit that embodies rugged, Americana workwear that’s seen some hard working action with a crackled, caked-on muddy coating that shows you’re not afraid to get down and dirty.”

I actually think it shows something else about a buyer willing to waste $425 on a pair of jeans with fake mud on them. (You too?)

We kicked off the 2017 (14th Annual!) Paul W. Smith Pure Michigan Tour this past Friday at Meijer in Royal Oak. I’m always fascinated to see what locations have been chosen by the station for us to explore.

Today we are broadcasting from the ArtPrize HUB in Grand Rapids; Tuesday from Chateau Chantel, Traverse City; on to Grand Hotel, Mackinac Island; H Residence in City Center, Midland; finishing up Friday at Durant-Dort Factory One in Downtown Flint, a city that can certainly use a little of our Relentless Positive Radio!

Paul W. Smith is host of The Paul W. Smith Show on WJR-AM (760) from 5:30-9 a.m. Monday-Friday.
