“Outta’ My Mind on a Monday Mornin’”

Wrapping up our 15th Annual Paul W. Smith WJR Pure Michigan Tour.

After departing Mackinac Island and Grand Hotel, we disembarked our Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry, and we reboarded our Dean Trailways Luxury Motor Coach bound for Midland. The “siren call” of Marty Hornacek’s Northwoods Wholesale Outlet in Pinconning (and yes they have cheese, lots and lots of cheese, which didn’t surprise me because I think they have EVERYTHING!) was too strong to ignore. We filled a shopping cart with hundreds of dollars worth of stuff for a grand total of just $80.00.

We finally reached our next scheduled stop, Midland’s wonderful H Hotel. We then went to Mike Gibbons new Gratzi Restaurant to meet up with our Michigan Great Lakes Bay Region ( team to discus the next day’s broadcast at the fabulous Midland Center for the Arts. If there is something that is keeping Midland from being one of Michigan’s greatest cities, I haven’t found it.

■We wrapped up our 2018 Tour, right back home, at the Detroit Historical Museum. Bob Bury has done an excellent job here, and we are going to miss him. Bob earlier announced he was leaving after many years at the helm, and we wish him well with whatever he does next.

Six days, six cities in the great state of Michigan. Along with all of the great people we met along the way, a few of the other memorable highlights included experiencing the Soo Locks in the midst of the fight to build another lock; seeing Grand Hotel’s new Lilac Suite and the Prentiss M. Brown Suite.

It was, as always, a whirlwind tour.
