Well, it’s time to purchase some new walking shoes and get a pedicure on those big ol’ werewolf feet of yours for the upcoming Mackinac Bridge Walk.

More than 40,000 walkers are expected to participate in the 58th annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk, which will again be led by Gov. Rick Snyder.

The five-mile hike will begin at 7 a.m. Sept. 7 but any sleepy little cowpokes can begin the hike as late as 11 a.m. Buses will be available to bring walkers from Mackinaw City to St. Ignace for $5.

The world’s greatest state police (Michigan State Police take a bow) will conduct searches of the purses, bags and backpacks of all walkers.

(In order to prevent delays, the MSP is asking that walkers leave their purses, bags and backpacks in their vehicles, if the contents aren’t essential.)

"This process has been quick and easy, and submitting your bag for a quick search or leaving it in your vehicle will help ensure the walk is safe and enjoyable for all participants," said Mackinac Bridge Authority Executive Secretary Bob Sweeney.

And for the fourth straight year, the MBA and the Michigan Department of Transportation are asking the public to share their bridge walk experience on social media with photos and videos.

As an incentive, one person sharing their memories on social media will be chosen to receive a once-in-a-lifetime tour to the tippy top of the Mackinac Bridge.

Memories can be posted on MDOT's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ MichiganDOT, or on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #MightyMacWalk15.
